This is a recording from 2021 of the WV LTAP's Introduction to Asphalt Technology Class. The entire class should take approximately 6 hours to complete. This class will cover materials, mixes and components of asphalt. Attendees will learn specification information, quality control and how to recognize the process and mix being used by contractors. Additionally, the course will cover inspection, placement and compaction of asphalt. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this class, attendees should be able to: Identify the materials used for construction of flexible pavements Understand the fundamentals of Bituminous materials and mixes Identify aggregates used in hot mix and properties of aggregates Understand the mix design process Understand Marshall and Superpave Understand the construction and inspection of asphalt concrete pavements AUDIENCE This class should be of interest to technicians, engineers, supervisors, inspectors, and others that need to have an understanding of mixes, materials, and other components of asphalt.
