This is a course developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); it can be counted for Road Scholar II credit as a substitute for the Pavement Preservation WV LTAP class. This class is hosted on an outside platform. If you have issues accessing the class, please contact FHWA. After completing the class, you will receive a certificate from FHWA. You will need to submit that certificate to us using the form contained within this class for credit. The entire class should take approximately 4 hours to complete. All roads inevitably deteriorate, right? Of course, they do. So, it’s important to have a plan for when they do. There are two ways to approach it: preservation or rehabilitation. The financial benefits of preservation are significant compared to the higher costs of reconstruction and rehabilitation. Pavement preservation is a proactive approach, intended to preserve a pavement to extend its useful life. In this course, you’ll learn how to confidently make decisions about which treatments to apply to a particular pavement and when to do it. This course is intended for a variety of positions within local agencies and tribal governments, with an emphasis on industry leaders who make and support decisions such as pavement preservation treatments and/or site selection.
